Another item I picked up at the 2011 Free Comic Book Day Festival in Rochester NH.
Title: MAMP
Issue: Vol. 2 #6
Publisher: Barrington Middle School Comic Book Club
Writer/Artist: George Philbrick, Oliver Philbrick, Samantha Niland, Tom Cusack, Anna Jennison, Danielle Rybinski, Alyssa Bussiere
A more recent volume from the kids at Barrington Middle School Comic Book Club than the previous one I reviewed. This was the 2011 Free Comic Book Day edition, and it featured a set of blank panels on the back page for collecting sketches from guest artists at the Rochester NH Free Comic Book Day festival.
In "Molten Moon", the hero returns from a mission and finds that his wife has been abducted by an unknown enemy who wants his power armor. This was followed by a cute one-page strip called "Birthday Balloons!" Next up is an autobiographical strip about soccer called "Hat Trick".
Another autobiographical piece called "Where's My Teddy?" features all the characters drawn as anthropomorphic ice cream cones. The story is about ballet, not ice cream, but it was still a pretty cool style.
'The Rock" is a story about fish, one of whom occasionally drives a car. Finally, "The Bad Decision" gives some helpful relationship advice and points out the fact that the truth can sometimes hurt.
I liked the variety of subject matter in this book. The young writers and artists are obviously having a lot of fun putting together a book that doesn't just try to copy the latest mainstream comics or manga. This issue had a very indy flavor to it, and some amusing stories.
