Just as Linda Danvers is hitting it off with a possible new boyfriend at a pool party, an earthquake strikes, and Linda has to pull a quick disappearing act to go and save the day as Supergirl. But while she is off doing her thing, her new crush suffers a potentially fatal head injury. A little bit of good old Kandorian super-science soon has him feeling good as new, well, better than new, actually. There's just one problem: The nice guy act was just an act.
This actually could have been a much longer and more interesting story, but it got rushed to an abrupt conclusion by page-count limitations. David the romantic interest and villain had some decent potential. Linda's supporting cast, in full 1970s vibe, are pretty cool too.
Backup story has Zatanna trapped in the stone that once held King Arthur's sword by a rather goofy villain. She tries a few different things to escape, and I spend time trying to read words backwards instead of paying attention to the story, until she eventually finds something that works. The actual resolution is amusing, and we get a panel of Zatanna speaking Welsh... forward... I think.
Both stories were decent harmless fun, but I would have liked to see more done with the Supergirl one.
